Social Studies
Social Studies Mission
The Social Studies Department prepares students to participate as constructive and engaged citizens in a democratic society. Students achieve mastery of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) through an integrated discipline-based content with interpretive skills involving maps and globes, information processing, social participation, and problem solving. The Department is multi-disciplinary in structure, offering courses in Geography, World and United States History, American Government/Civics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Law, and Current Issues. Many of the required courses for graduation are offered in levels of college prep and honors/gifted levels. Advanced Placement (AP) courses for college credit are also offered.
