Mountain View High School Dress Code

Mountain View High School expects Excellence in Everything. This includes student dress that promotes a positive learning environment free of distractions. Please read our quick guide and full version of the MVHS Dress Code below.
Dress Code Quick Guide:
- Shirts must cover the midriff (stomach and back), not revealing (no spaghetti straps or exposed cleavage), and no large cut-out tank tops exposing sides of torso.
- Pants/Shorts must cover the back and front areas.
- Pants/Shorts may not have rips or tears on the upper or backside areas.
- No sagging pants.
- No hats, hoods, beanies, head scarfs, etc.
- Clothing may not depict or imply violence, alcohol, tobacco, nudity, hate speech, or obscene language.

Dress Code Full Version:
Head/Face Gear and Accessories
• Scarves, bonnets, bandanas, and head wraps are not permitted within the building (the crown of the head should be exposed, and headbands should be no more than two inches thick). Religious or medically necessary headcovers are permitted with appropriate documentation provided to the Office of Student Supports.
• Hats, caps, durags, and hoodies should be removed upon entering the building and will not be permitted to remain on top of the head (this is also true for holidays, spirit days, or themed celebrations).
• Accessories, including masks related to COVID19, socks, and shoes, may not contain inappropriate language or symbols (i.e., drug or gang paraphernalia, depictions of alcohol, weapons, or nudity, vulgar or offensive language)
• Some jewelry and accessories could be considered a weapon. Sharp and pointy items, dog collars, chains with locks, brass knuckles, and/or other items identified as a safety concern by administration are not allowed.
• Headphones/Earbuds are permitted during transitions with the following stipulations: Earbuds must be one in and one out to ensure you can hear verbal directions. Headphones must be one in and one out to ensure you can hear verbal directions.
Headphones/Earbuds are only permitted in class by teacher authorization or proper documentation for those with medical or sensory needs.
•No blankets, pillows, costumes (except on designated spirit days), or stuffed animals are allowed.
Jeans, Skirts and Bottoms/Other
• Pants/Shorts must cover the back and front areas.
• No tears in the upper seat or thigh area (spandex shorts or leggings should be worn underneath higher rips for coverage).
• Leggings are permitted when the shirt or top being worn covers both the back and front areas fully.
• No sagging pants.
• Undergarments should not be visible.
• Dresses/Skirts/Skorts should cover the back and front areas. Be mindful these can hike up from behind on their own or due to bookbags pulling at them leading to inappropriate exposure. Bike shorts underneath are encouraged for coverage.
• Mesh, fishnet stockings or tights worn underneath a skirt should have no tears in the upper seat or thigh area.
• Tight pajama pants/tops, full bodysuits, and onesies are not permitted
• Flannel pajama pants are permitted if they cover the student properly like pants.
Tops, Shirts, Dresses, Socks & Shoes
• Shoulder straps on tops should be three finger widths (i.e., no spaghetti straps, bralettes, tank tops, sports bras, or cut off sports jerseys).
• Mid-drifts, bellies, stomachs, waistlines, and/or backs should not be visible at any time within the building. No crop tops.
•Low cut shirts and cut out tank tops are not permitted. No racer back tops.
• Shirts should not promote any inappropriate images or wording (i.e., drug or gang paraphernalia, alcohol, weapons, nudity, vulgar, or offensive language).
• Shirts/Blouses– should not be worn see-through or without a visible camisole that covers like a tank top (no midriff, chest areas, or bras exposed).
Other:
• Loaned items from the school should be washed and returned to the Office of Student Supports the next day to avoid incurring a $10 fee per item placed on the student’s school obligation account.
• Administrators have final discretion on all matters related to dress code.
